Ashtanga
This class is taught by:
Antoinette Altomonte
I walked into my first yoga class thinking it would be a cinch. That impression quickly went down the drain, and I got a big slap of humble across the face--my 10 years as an athlete notwithstanding. 4 years and a teacher training later, my practice continues to teach me humility, and so much more. It has helped me find the quiet in an otherwise very noisy world, and has helped me find peace across oceans (quite literally, having moved here from the Philippines a little over 3 years ago).
As a teacher, my foremost intention is to create a safe space--a shared space of expression (without judgment), release (of emotions, of stress, of hamstrings), opening (of minds, of hearts, of tight hips), challenge (but not competition), and community. And maybe we'll break a sweat along the way.
Looking forward to sharing space with you!
An athletic flow for those who enjoy a self-challenge. The Ashtanga Primary Series, is an advanced practice. It is referred to as Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy. It is utilized to realign the spine, detoxify the body, build strength, flexibility, and stamina. The series begins with sun salutations (Surya Namaskara A and Surya Namaskara B), then on to a series of challenging standing poses, seated poses with chaturangas in between, inversions, and back bends, and ends in a savasana relaxation.
